Fixing That Garden Hose

Garden hoses receive abuse on a daily basis. Leaking and damaged garden hoses wastewater. Repair kits for garden hoses are available at most home and garden centers. The repair kits are generally modest in cost. The task of mending a garden hose will not take more than 10 minutes of your time. In the end, the repair will save you more money that the kit cost.

List:
Knife
Philips screwdriver
Garden hose repair couple (same diameter as hose)

Inspect the hose for the leak. Cut out that section of hose with the knife. Remove any portion of the hose that contains small holes or a cracked exterior. The cut must be clean and not a ragged edge.

Loosen the two exterior collars on the garden hose coupler kit. The collars sit on both ends of the coupler. The collars are half moon in shape and contain two pieces each. There are two Philip screws that hold the fastening collar onto each end of the couple. Turn the screws in a counter clockwise direction. Set the four screws and the four pieces to the side.

Push the male insert of the coupler into both ends of the cut garden hose. Ensure the cut end of the garden hose rests up against the flange of the coupler.

Place the two half pieces of the collar over the garden hose. Insert the two Philip screws into the threads and tighten in a clockwise direction. Fasten the other collar over the other end of the coupler. Insert the two screws and tighten.

Connect the garden hose to the spigot. Turn the water on and check for a leak at the coupler. Tighten the screws if required.

Words to the Wise:
Repairing the male and female connectors is performed in the same fashion as described. There will be only one insert connector on the end of the repair kit.
